President: Claire
Hey! I’m Claire, a third year psychology student, crazy person, keen Scout and the president of SSWIGS for 2009/10.
I began life as alittle Rainbow, had an amazing time in Brownies and then moved onto Guides. I joined Scouts, age 11, and since then, have had some of the most amazing experiences ever, including participating in and being proposed to (by a Texan cowboy who came complete with a Stetson whoop!) at the 20th World Scout Jamboree in Thailand (2002-2003) and leading a trip to a Norwegian Scout Jamboree for my Explorer Group (2005). Regular visits to Kandersteg International Scout Centre in Switzerland (the best place in the world) keep me enthusiastic for Scouting. Currently I’m an ASL at home near Swindon and an ABSL at the most awesome Beaver Colony in Swansea.
During my time as SSWIGS secretary last year, I began to organise a SSWIGS trip to Poland for June 2009 which I’m excited to be seeing through as President. Also as president I look forward to the opportunity to increase links between SSWIGS and the local community, make official society business more open to members and generally to have another SSWIGSishly cool year!
If you’ve any ideas for socials, ways to develop the society etc, be sure to speak to the committee so we can try to make everyone smile!
Secretary: Shaun
Hello, I’m Shaun, a fourth year, post-grad, economist and your Secretary for the forthcoming year.
I have been involved with Scouting from a young age, moving from Beavers through to Explorer Scouts and also being involved as a young leader before moving to Swampea. Scouting has taken me to many places including Kandersteg, Switzerland in 2003.
SSWIGS has given me a great deal of ‘good times’ from the weekly meetings, national rallies and balls across the UK, and to the more intimate Fresher’s and Easter Camps. The opportunities that have been available within the society over the last three years have been fantastic, and it is my aim for this to continue, so that all members, returning or new, can have the same fulfilment as I have enjoyed.
As secretary for the year, much of my role can be considered to be behind the scenes, form filling and paperwork etc (so no injuries this year please!), but I am looking forward to the privilege of being able to serve you all once more within this incredible society we call SSWIGS!

Social Secretary: Bex
Hi! I’m Bex and I’m just about to enter my third year of an English and History degree. I’m also going to be your Social Secretary for this year.
I’ve been in Guiding practically all of my life since my Mum took me along to her Rainbow Unit as a ‘Pre Rainbow’ (or Raindrop which is what the Rainbows named me!!). Then I actually got to become a Rainbow (possibly one of my most exciting days ever!) and haven’t looked back since moving through Brownies, Guides and Rangers before becoming a Brownie Guider. After that I came to Swansea and became a SSWIG which was equally as exciting as becoming a Rainbow. I love Guiding and SSWIGS as it offers amazing opportunities that I wouldn’t have had anywhere else for instance an international camp in Denmark and Poland. Also no one would have got me Gorge Walking if it wasn’t for the SSWIGS!
I’m really looking forward to being Social Secretary; organising lots of exciting stuff for us to do and continue making SSWIGS the awesome society that it is.
Publicity Officer: Tom
Hey, I’m Tom and I
am the current publicity officer for SSWIGS. In September I will be
entering my 4th year of my civil engineering degree.
I have been in the scouting
movement since I was a beaver, all those years ago and I have
progressed through all the youth sections. In 2007I attended the
World Scout Jamboree; where I was a member of SOPS a.k.a. bog squad.
I try to keep involved with Scouting whilst at uni, both in Swansea
and in my home county of Suffolk. Whilst at home I am actively
involved in water activities at my Sea Scout troop, 3rd Sudbury Sea Scouts where I am training to be an assistant Sea Scout
Leader.
I have really enjoyed my time in SSWIGS attending many camps and socials it has given me a chance to meet other people with similar interests from all over the country. I particularly enjoyed Gorge walking on fresher's camp and all of those hours spent round a campfire. As publicity officer one of my main roles is to keep the website updated, I hope you think I am doing a good job, if not please email me, with your comments/ideas. I hope all members of SSWIGS continue to have fun!
