President: Kate

Hello, I’m Kate, often called Little Kate (for obvious reasons). I am a PhD student in the School of Business and Economics and have taken on the challenge of being President of SSWIGS this year. I have been involved in the society since starting as an undergraduate here in Swansea in 2004 and really hope that as President of such an amazing society I can help other students get the most out of their university experience.
I have been involved in Guiding since I dressed in a pair of dashing culottes and a fantastically wooly jumper as a Brownie and am now an Assistant Leader with 4th Sketty Brownies here in Swansea. I am currently extremely excited as this summer I am taking part in the Centenary Stampede, where I will be travelling across Europe with other Guiders from Swansea and Cardiff Universities celebrating the amazingness of Girlguiding UK.
Guiding plays a huge part in my life, but so does SSWIGS and I am really looking forward to helping the society develop even more. I am looking forward to listening to members and putting their ideas in to action, so if you have any ideas then please feel free to fire them at me.
Secretary: Jon

Hi, I’m Jon, second year business management student and SSWIGS secretary for 2010/11. Unlike most members of SSWIGS I’ve had very little to do with scouting before joining up, But despite my lack of scouting history everyone at SSWIGS made me feel welcome and I’ve a wonderful year with them full of new experiences. Proving anyone can join and have a good time no matter what your background is.
As secretary my job this year will involve most of the paperwork for SSWIGS making sure everything is kept up to date and handed in on time, and working with the student union and SSAGO. So I hope this year I can help the society run as smoothly and efficiently as possible so every member can enjoy themselves.

Social Secretary: Rhiannon

Hi i'm Rhiannon, also known as Rhino, and I am the new social secretary for this year. I'm in my 3rd year studying sports science.
I started SSWIGS in my first year and loved it and believed I should give something back in my final year and would like the new members to enjoy as much as I have.
I have been involved in Guiding since I was 12 and have since made up for my late start by becoming a young leader and now an assistant leader to both my group here in Swansea at 2nd Sketty Guides, and back at home. I have been made a leader on an international county trip to Switzerland in 2009 but had also been selected to represent my region when going to Thailand with a small group from LaSER (London and South East Region) back in 2008. I feel these experiences have only just started for me.
I am willing to take any ideas that you feel might improve the activities we run as a society and I will try and give varied and exciting social that will suit everyone!!!
Publicity Officer: Shaun

Hello, I’m Shaun, and I am a post-graduate, economist and your publicity officer for the forthcoming year.
I have been involved with Scouting from a young age, moving from Beavers through to Explorer Scouts and also being involved as a young leader before moving to Swampea in 2006. Scouting has taken me to many places including Kandersteg, Switzerland in 2003.
Being a member of SSWIGS has given me a great deal of ‘good times’ from the weekly meetings, national rallies and balls across the UK, and to the more intimate Fresher’s and Easter Camps. In the summer of 2009 I attended the society's first trip abroad had a fantastic time. The opportunities that have been available within the society over the last four years have been fantastic, and it is my aim for this to continue, so that all members, new or returning, can have the same fulfilment as I have enjoyed.
As publicity officer this year, I shall be managing the society's image to the wider local, student and SSAGO community. This includes managing the website and the society noticeboard in union house on campus and hope to get the society mentioned in the Waterfront throughout the year. Any suggestions or amendments anyone has to these, then please let me know.
