What Is Rally?
A SSAGO Rally is a National gathering of SSAGO members from across the country, this includes independent and associate members. Rallies occur roughly once every academic term, in Autumn around the middle of November, the Spring around the middle of February and the summer one late June/early July. The location is organised by the hosting club, usually a campsite located near to the city of their University.
What Happens On Rally?
- Arrive on Friday night, have a campfire, It is usually fairly relaxed atmosphere, meeting old and new friends and singing some traditional campfire songs.
- Saturday morning usually starts with some kind of activity where everyone is together, this might be an incident hike; wide game or challenges.
- On Saturday afternoon you get to chose your activity this is normally booked in advance. The activities change from rally to rally, but there is always something for everyone. The choices on offer can range from climbing to crafts, video-film making to archery, 'cultural' trips, brewery trips.... anything the host club feels might be of interest, you can even be lazy and have the afternoon off.
- The main Saturday evening event is the barn dance. This as a fancy-dress theme, which usually ties in with the overall theme of the rally. A traditional campfire will follow and normally lasts well into the night....
- A Scout and Guides Own is held on the Sunday morning. This is optional. The rest of the morning is taken up by the 'Silly-Games' - an excuse to forget about being 'mature' for a while. After the closing ceremony, everyone heads home.
- At some stage during the weekend there is a 'SSAGO reps meeting' and an 'Indies' meeting. Spring Rallies also include the SSAGO AGM.

Rally Advice
- Remember to bring two completed health forms with you, the health form is now available on our website here. So you can fill it out on your computer, save it and just press print when ever you need it. Saves a lot of form filling at the last minute.
- Rallies are great fun! They are the ideal opportunity to meet like-minded people from across the country. It may be a chance to try a new activity, or to visit somewhere you haven't been before. Although mainly social, they are also the place to get involved in SSAGO nationally, to help determine its future path.
SSWIGS Rally - Summer 2008
SSWIGS summer rally took place from 4th – 6th July 2008 and proved to be a great success. With the Welsh weather living up to its reputation the ‘Under the Sea’ theme was quite apt.
Following the usual Friday night campfire craziness, SSAGO took over Swansea sands for a variety of races and games. Of course some members got buried and some undertook some extreme paddling, which all added to the beach fun. Other Saturday activities included some water sports for the brave and journeying to mumbles for those who fancied a taste of the Catherine zeta Jones lifestyle. Saturday night barn dance saw the arrival of the beetles and some dancing jellyfish (to name but a few costumes) and the customary barn dancing crew.
A few guests arrived Sunday morning to surprise the SSAGO crew; some local scouting members lead some unique back woods cooking fun, as well as a local jive dancing school to improve some somewhat hopeless SSAGO dancers. There were also a few challenges and activities such as a washing up water slide, for members to enjoy. The whole weekend was thoroughly enjoyed by all involved and definitely proved SSWIGS are simply the best!
